MEET YOUR INNKEEPERS
At Frisco Street, a Missouri bed and breakfast inn, you will be hosted by a couple that has made taking care of people their passion. Nancy and Lyle grew up in the mid-west. Lyle was born in Springfield, Illinois and Nancy in Grayville, Illinois (southeastern Illinois). Nancy and Lyle were married in 1963 and have two children and two grandchildren. Staying in bed and breakfasts has been a hobby for Nancy and Lyle for 25-30 years. They have stayed in many B&Bs as they vacationed across the country (around 75-100). On two previous occasions they almost opened a bed and breakfast. As innkeepers at Frisco Street Bed and Breakfast, they are fulfilling their dream of owning a bed and breakfast. The timing is perfect, as Lyle has semi-retired.
Nancy grew up in a home where cooking for family and friends was the hobby of the entire family, especially her dad. One of his favorite statements was “Some people eat to live, we live to eat.” Nancy’s family had a 5-acre garden with all kinds of produce. Apple, cherry, plum, and apricot trees supplied ingredients for many a scrumptious treat. Grapes from Dad’s arbor were used to make wine. A pecan tree made for delicious pecan pies. Of course, canning and freezing were a vital part of family activities. Nancy was a 4-H member from fifth grade through high school and then a 4-H leader. Guests will enjoy the benefits of Nancy’s family legacy of a love of cooking by sampling homemade jelly, jams, and apple butter, along with some honest-to-goodness “down home” cooking at Frisco Street.
On Sundays after church, Lyle’s family, which included aunts and uncles and their families, gathered for lunch and family fun. The game of Cribbage was a must for Lyle’s father and his uncles. Lyle’s father taught his boys the strategies of Cribbage at a very young age. Lyle has continued this tradition and has taught the younger members of his and Nancy’s families to play Cribbage. It has become a family tradition and a rite of passage that when the youngsters are able to play Cribbage, they have become an adult. The Cribbage Board is always ready at Frisco Street, and Lyle is willing to share the trade secrets passed on from his father and acquired from years of practice. Cribbage is one of the few games that is both exciting and competitive, even if only two people are playing.
Lyle’s other pastimes and hobbies include the Masonic Lodge (he is a Past Master of St. Paul’s Lodge #500 in Springfield, Illinois), singing (he sang in the Consistory Quartet), and woodworking.
A favorite family activity Nancy and Lyle both experienced growing up was the love of working jigsaw puzzles and playing board games. Frisco Street always has a jigsaw puzzle in progress, and board games are always available in the parlor.
Nancy and Lyle also enjoy bridge, bird watching, flower gardening and nature. Most importantly, they love to entertain guests in their home and would love to include you in the group of friends they have made while owning Frisco Street Bed & Breakfast. They will help you make the most of your Ozark vacation.
